In a clear case of overkill, the RCMP (?) have converged on the peaceful
anti fracking protest in Mikmaq territory with the intent to enforce an
injunction against the protesters.  Snipers, dogs and escalating conflict
unfolding.  Media on hand.

This should come as no surprise.  The corporate elitists are scrambling to
survive as more and more people become aware and fed up.  Everywhere you
turn, people are fed up, young and old, man, woman, child, working stiffs
and unemployed, people are fed up with the crap.

What are YOU going to do about it.

Kittoh”

Canadians don’t want fracking drilling in their country. They have seen what has happened in the United States and don’t want the long term pollution on land and poisoning of their drinking water. Of the provinces of Canada, New Brunswick seems to be the litmus test.

Other provinces (such as Ontario) have relaxed long standing tough environmental laws in order to cash in on getting shale gas through the “fracking” practice of extraction. Problem is that “fracking” causes a disproportionate amount of long term pollution and for little short term gain. Its simply another shortsighted business where local government gets a small stipend from a private company but then in the long term sticks it’s constituents (ie voters, citizens, people that live there) with costs of clean up and destruction of their lands

Perhaps if this started in one of Canada’s larger population center’s ,such as Ontario, it would have been a non-starter as local protests would have shut it the whole fracking process down. Thus probably why it is being field tested in smaller province (New Brunswick) that has minimal political influence, and on top of that on Native Land– being that aboriginal people’s there are already marginalized politically and might not draw attention or sympathy from the larger Canadian populace.

The initial over reaction from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in response to protestors has only served to escalate tensions and provoked more radical elements to action. Not to mention the arrest of Elsipogtog chief Arren Sock and several council members who were trying to intervene in the dispute.” They have ignored the “escalation of force” doctrine and went to an immediate war footing. When confronted with this kind of show of force in the past Native groups responded accordingly.

The Mi’kmaqpeople’s there (Rexton,New Brunswick)are protesting against fracking and THIS IS THE FRONT LINE!
(note: this is also the same company involved in poisoning large swathes of Pennsylvania in the United States!).
Other peoples need to stand beside them in this fight. It is not just a “native issue”. We all drink the same water and breath the same air. Canadians need to start saying FUCK NO about fracking and the so called political leadership need to start listening to them, NOT to corporate interests!
