Here is another edition on our ongoing saga of 8 tracks. This time it is the Evil von Scary Halloween Soundtrack!! (insert demonic echo chamber effect here). For your horror and amazement I have compiled 8 tracks I feel embody some of the strangeness and horror of Halloween.
1/ “Bloodfeast” – Misfits
Really The Misfits is one of those groups who are all about Halloween, heck they even have a song titled Halloween in various versions as well every incarnation of the Misfits has done their own version of Halloween. This video was put together by a fan and I thought it was a really great tribute:
2/ “Surfin’ Spooks”-The Ghastly Ones
Surf music has always been a little otherworldly and creepy. The Ghastly Ones certainly embody the Halloween tradition and worked with Rob Zombie (another Monster Kid!)
3/ “In my coffin”-Cult of the Psychic Fetus-
See I told you the surf style is the creepiest! Another great group who lets face is all about being scary. Halloween is every day for these guys.
4/ “Halloween”- Siouxie and the Banshees
One of those groups where even if you were a “trasher” back in the day you could still get along with the goths or at least date goth gals, lol. Inspired many!
5/ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”- Electric Hellfire Club (original BY Bauhaus)
Throwing another “Goth” one in there as if you don’t know by now they do live Halloween 24/7. For Goths its not just a day its a lifestyle choice. Lol. I’ve gotten flack for putting EHC over Bauhuas (from go figure old goths) but I like what I like, get your own website already!
6/Halloween-“Dead Kennedys”
Its not to hard to find songs about Halloween. Just about every alternative (punk,goth,surf,metal,whatever) group has a Halloween song. The DK’s though took it a step further poking a finger in the eye of society at large. Asking the why is there only one day a year that “regular” folks let loose and dress up.
7/”This is Halloween” –Marilyn Manson
Not a huge fan of MM however I gotta respect his eloquence. Excellent song and another appropriate musician for Halloween.
8/Archangel- Samhain
The next evolution/phase/branch of the Misfits. Samhain (named after the Celtic Hero and Feastname of Halloween) got a little darker and spookier. This song just happens to be my fav. I’ve presented the live version as it’s really raw and shows just some of the energy!
